If a company pays a dividend equivalent to a 3% yield, management is essentially telling investors they can't find better investments within the company that will return greater than 3%. The key to being a successful value investor is determining the expectations the market or other investors are making regarding a stock, and then comparing those expectations to the facts, or the truth.
